The courage to speak: how Spinal Energetics dissolves the resistance that keeps us silent

A common theme I’ve witnessed repeatedly in my practice - and that I have also experienced personally.
There's a conversation you've been avoiding. You know the one. It sits heavy in your chest, replays in your mind during the quiet moments and creates a low-level anxiety that follows you through your day. You tell yourself you'll have it "when the timing is right" or "when you find the courage," but days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months. That subtle undercurrent of pent-up anxiety quickly becomes your regular way of being in the world.
Recently, a client shared something that perfectly illustrates a pattern I’ve seen time and time again in my Spinal Energetics practice:
"I had been putting off this vulnerable conversation with a close friend for months. I kept thinking 'what if it backfires?' or 'what if it doesn't go right?' The fear was paralysing me. Then I had my session with you on Wednesday and that Saturday - almost without thinking about it - I finally had the conversation! It went so much better than I expected and I can only put it down to what shifted in the session."
This isn't an isolated incident.
I've witnessed this transformation countless times: clients finding the courage to speak difficult truths shortly after their sessions. Partners finally addressing relationship issues they've been dancing around. Business owners having challenging conversations with team members. Adult children setting boundaries with parents. The list goes on.
I've experienced it myself too - that sudden clarity and courage to address what I'd been avoiding with seemingly much more ease.
What's really happening here?
Spinal Energetics works directly with the nervous system to release stored tension and patterns from adverse past experience that may not have fully integrated. When we're holding unspoken truths, our body literally holds that tension in the muscles, fascia and tendons. You know the feeling when your throat constricts as you swallow down what you long to say. Your chest tightens. Your nervous system stays in a state of hypervigilance.
As my client beautifully articulated: "It's about less resistance."
When we clear old energetic patterns through body and energy work, we're not just releasing physical tension - we're dissolving the resistance that keeps us stuck in patterns of avoidance. The energy that was tied up in holding back our truth becomes available for authentic expression. We begin to live a more aligned life and stop abandoning ourselves in the process.
What's particularly fascinating is that this isn't just about one conversation. Clients consistently report ongoing changes:
The nervous system begins to learn a new way of being - one where truth-telling feels safe rather than threatening. One where you become courageous and feel whole from saying what you’ve been holding back for years.
We live in a world that often rewards people-pleasing and conflict avoidance. It is always easier and more comfortable to not rock the boat. But when we consistently suppress our authentic voice, it doesn't just disappear - it gets stored in our body as tension, anxiety and dis-ease.
Energy work creates space for the truth to come out, by clearing the old patterns that convinced us speaking up was dangerous.
One thing that makes energy work both beautiful and challenging to articulate is that everyone experiences the benefits differently. Each session is unique to the individual as they show up with their own unique life experiences. Some people leave feeling immediately lighter. Others will notice more subtle shifts occur over the weeks to follow. Some find the courage for difficult conversations, while others experience breakthroughs in creativity or self-worth.
What remains consistent is this: when we clear bound tension from the physical body through energetic work, we make space for more flow and ease - in our personal relationships, our work and the aspect that rules it all - our relationship with ourselves.
If you're sitting on an unspoken truth, your body is likely holding that tension somewhere. The conversation you're avoiding isn't just about words - it's about energy, authenticity, and the freedom that comes from living aligned with your truth. It’s about showing up and sharing the words that feel difficult to say even if your voice shakes.
Sometimes we need support to find that courage. Sometimes we need help clearing the resistance that keeps us small and silent, that makes us dull ourselves down just a little to be more palatable, abandoning our own needs in the process.
What conversation have you been avoiding?
What would change if you finally found the courage to speak your truth?
